11 Aug 1918: | Honoured Military Medal, For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the operations 5th/9th August 1918. (East of Cobbie). During the advance on Phoyart , Private O'Loughlin as runner, showed the greatest coolness and courage. He brought several messages, from his Company Headquarters under heavy machine gun and sniper fire. When the final objective was reached Private O'Loughlin was sent to Pattelion Headquarters with messages containing all information about the position. On leaving the front line he was seriously hit in his leg by a sniper's bullet. This brave soldier then crawled through with his messages and delivered them to Battalion Headquarters before having his wound attended to. Throughout the day this runner's work was most valuable. | |
