Biography contributed by Sharyn Roberts

Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For conspicuous courage and perseverance near Peronne, 31 August, 1918, in maintaining the line from Barieux alone for fifteen hours, and in repairing it under continuous heavy artillery fire. It was undoubtedly due to his devotion to duty that this line was successfully maintained throughout the operations.'
