Private Abraham Wickham Horsham (Service No:W73036) served with the 8th Battalion VDC in the ACMF from 14 April 1942 to 25 June 1943.
Born in 1901 in Zeehan Tasmania, Joe was the fourth of eleven children of Roland Horsham (b1871 in Penguin, Tasmania) and Frances Maria Ellis (b1877 in Warwickshire, Engalnd). Frances arrived with her parents and siblings in Townsville QLD in 1884 on board the Duke of Bucchleuch - the family moved to Zeehan, Tasmania in 1892. Roland (a Miner) and Frances married in 1897 in Zeehan, Tasmania where they settled and raised their family and Roland was a Miner.
Joe started work as a Diamond Driller in Williamsford, Tasmania before moving to Braeside at Kalgoorlie WA in 1928, then to Teralba, NSW and where he worked as a Diamond Driller. Joe was in Kalgoorlie WA in 1933 when he married Gladys May McLoughlin (b1901 at Lake View, WA) in Perth. The couple settled in Kalgoorlie where Joe was a Diamond Driller Foreman when he enlisted in the ACMF in 1942. Joe and Gladys moved to Wickham, NSW in the late 1940s before returning to WA and settling in Perth in the early 1950s - Joe worked as a Diamond Driller. Joe died in 1970 and Gladys in 1987.
