Private John Williamson Annandale (Service No:W69661) served in the ACMF with 4th (WA) Battalion VDC from 25 January 1942 to 11 July 1944. His father - Private John Williamson Annandale (Service No:5046) - was KiA in France in WWI, and his step-father - George Lake (Private; Service No:4297) - served in WWI.
John was born in Fifeshire, Scotland in 1912, third of five children of John Williamson Annandale Snr (b1881 in Stonehaven, Scotland) and Ann (Annie) Anderson (b1896 in Dundee, Scotland). John Snr was ten years of age when he started working as a Jute Worker, and was a Coal Miner in 1908 when he and Annie married. John Snr immigrated in 1912, arriving in Fremantle on board the Gothic, and was joined in 1913 by Annie and their two sons (William and John - their daughter had died in 1911) on board the Australind. John Snr and Annie settled at Collie Burn via Collie, where John Snr was a Coal Miner before enlisitng in the AIF in 1916. Following John's death in 1918, Annie remarried to George Lake (b1894 in Newcastle, New South Wales) in 1920 in Collie. Annie and George settled at Collie Burn via Collie, where they raised their family and George worked as a Carter.
John was a Printer in Collie Burn via Collie in 1936 when he married Rita Yvonne Dickson (b1919 in Collie, Western Australia). John and Rita settled in Collie Burn, where they raised their family and John worked as a Printer - when he enlisted in the ACMF in 1942, John gave his occupation as Miner. Rita died in 1964 and John in 1971.
