Private Harold George Thrupp (Service No:N468561) served in the ACMF with 9th Battalion VDC from 11 January 1942 to 20 September 1945.
Born in Miles, QLD in 1918, Harold was eldest of four children of William (Bill) Leslie Thrupp (b1893 at Mingelo via Peak Hill, NSW) and Florence Marie Rooker (b1896 at Timms' Farm via Roma, QLD). Bill (a Railways Employee) and Florence married in 1917 in Miles, QLD - Bill had served in WWI (Lance Corporal; Service No:633). Bill and Florence settled in Roma, where they raised their family and Bill worked for QGR as an Engine Cleaner, Railways Fireman and Lcomotive Driver. In the early 1940s, Bill and Florence moved to Oakey on the Darling Downs in QLD, and Bill worked for QGR until he retired in 1966.
Harold was an Accountant in Sydney NSW in 1939 when he married Valerie May De Plater (b1922 in Cooma, NSW). Harold and Valerie settled in Sydney, where they raised their family and Harold was an Accountant and Company Secretary (in partnership with his brother-in-law Frederick Vincent De Plater) of Cronulla Glass Supply. In 1957 Harold and Valerie divorced - both later remarried - and the business partnership was dissolved. Harold remarried in 1962 in Sydney to Judith Elizabeth McIntosh, and worked in Sydney and Brisbane as a Company Director. Harold died in 1998.
