Embarked from Brisbane on 12.8.1916 aboard Boorana bound for England.
During the Battle of Ypres, Alfred was gassed twice, 20.6.1917 & 6.7.1917. Also received a gunshot wound to his left hand on 14.10.1917.
Discharged on 29.4.1918.
Married on 14.11.1923 to Ruth May Smith.
Died 3.10.1975 & buried in Proserpine Old Cemetery, section NP6 -324
