Son of James Unwin and Sarah Unwin nee Bullen of Petrie Terrace, Brisbane, QLD
2 February 1917 - enlisted at Brisbane with the 7th Machine Gun Company with the rank of Private.
24 January 1918 - transferred to the 9th Battalion and re-allocated with service number 771A
Commenced return to Australia 18 July 1919 aboard Takada disembarking on 7 September 1919 at Melbourne for onward travel to Brisbane
Medals: British War Medal, Victory Medal
2 October 1919 - discharged at the 1st Military District
On 22 June 1920 Robert married Alice Gertrude Dunn in QLD.
