20 Sep 1917: Honoured Military Medal, Third Ypres, For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty, when as Battalion runner he continued to run between Battalion Headquarters and the front line, despite heavy enemy barrages throughout. He set a fine example of coolness and courage at Westhoek Ridge on 20 September 1917.
