Charles was the fourth of nine children of Thomas Terrill (born 1864 in Cape Bridewater, Victoria) and Eliza (Lily) Fox (born 1863 in Portland, Victoria). Thomas (a Fruiterer) married Lily in 1887 in Portland, Victoria. They settled at Casterton in Castlemaine, Victoria and at Warnambool where Thomas was a Storekeeper.
Charles was a Coach Painter when he enlisted in the AIF in August 1915, and served as a Private and Driver (Service No:14843) with 4th Field Ambulance. He was Discharged in September 1919. Brother George Hicks Terrill (Private; Service No:81273) and Brother-in-Law James Treeby Yates (Private; Service No:2022) served in WWI, and Sister-in-Law Ethel Dorothy Yates (Aircraftwoman; Service No:110250) served in WWII.
Charles was in Warnambool, Victoria working as a Coach Painter when he married Ellen Rhodesia Yates (born 1896 in Melbourne, Victoria). They married in Melbourne in 1920, where they settled to raise their family. Charles worked as a Motor Painter. Ellen died in 1973 and Charles in 1979.
