Lieutenant Hulks served in the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry, British Army for 19 years. During this time he deployed to the Indian Frontier and South Africa, as well as Instructional Staff in New South Wales. (1 year six months).

He was survived by his wife Jessie and their 3 children.
