Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Private Albert Edward Henderson (Service No:W70784) served in the ACMF with 5 and 14 Battalions VDC from 26 April 1942 to 31 July 1944 (Reserves List). Brothers Gordon, Don and Arty also served with the ACMF.

Bert was born in Donnybrook, Western Australia in 1917, sixth of seven children of William John Henderson (b1876 at Natamuk, Victoria) and Elsie May Nash (b1883 at Goolwa, South Australia). William was a Carter in Mildura Victoria, where he and Elsie married in 1900, and by 1904 the family had moved to Western Australia. They lived briefly in Perth before settling at Scotts Brook via Boyup Brook, where they raised their family and William was a Farmer.

Bert worked on Glen Dale at Scotts Brook as a Farmer and, in 1938 in Blackkwood, married Melba Johnson (b1914 in Adelaide, South Australia). Bert and Melba settled in Boyup Brook - on Glen Dale at Scotts Brook and then Pine Ridge at Kulikp - where they raised their family and Bert was a Farmer. Melba died in 1991 and Bert in 1997.
