Son of Isaac & Sarah (Richardson) Cockbain.
He emigrated to Australia, 6 June 1913, free on the "SS. Benalla". Frederick Cockbain enlisted in the army during WW1. He enlisted at Liverpool, NSW on 24 April 1915. Service No. 2119. He was in the 2nd Battallion, 6th Reinforcement. He was wounded by a bullet wound at Gallipoli, Turkey on 11 August 1915 in the right thigh which fractured it. This left him with lameness and he was shipped back to Australia on 11 March 1916 on the "Suevis". In his army papers he is described as being 5'9-3/4", 158 lbs., fair complexion, blue eyes, sandy hair and Church of England denomination. Frederick was the first soldier settler in Coramba district taking up land on the southern end of Duncan's Bridge Road. Fred was a carpenter and stone mason, a keen fisherman and lover of cricket.
Married Hannah Simpson on June 27, 1910 at Penrith, England.
