74 years ago today, on the Wednesday afternoon of the 13th April 1949, Farrier Corporal John Wall, 2nd Australian Remount Unit (Reg No-1723), blacksmith from " Lindaville", 17 Sunderland Street, Waratah, (Mayfield) New South Wales, father of two (Alroy Armstrong and Edna), was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 67. ANGLICAN 3-175. 49.

Died on his 67th birthday.

Born at West Maitland, New South Wales on the 11th April 1882 (mother's name spelt SALINA) to Samuel and Selina Wall; husband of Linda May Wall nee Hendy (married 1909, West Maitland, N.S.W., died 1936, METHODIST 1 (WESLEYAN) CSW. 54., marked grave) nurse, from St. Margaret's Hospital, 435 Bourke Street, Darlinghurst, N.S.W., John enlisted on the 2nd October 1915 at Holsworthy, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A67 Orsova on the 10th November 1915.

Admitted to hospital 27.10.1917 (boils).
John returned home on the 11th June 1919, being discharged on the 27th August 1919.

Mr. Wall’s name has been inscribed on the Waratah Masonic Lodge No. 170, U.G.L. N.S.W. Honor Roll. Name not inscribed on the NSW Govt Railways and Tramways Roll of Honour, 1914-1919.

Not officially commemorated.

I have placed poppies and a 1914-1918 WAR label at this WW1 Digger’s gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.
