Nellie was the daughter of Henry Todhunter Hill and Catherine Mary Hill nee Durham.
Nellie enlisted as a Staff Nurse with the Australian Army Nursing Service on 24.11.1914 and embarked from Australia per "Kyarra" on 25.11.1914. Transport duty Suez/England/Australia per "Star of England" & "Morea". Re-embarked "Morea" for England. Promoted to Sister on 12.12.1915. Extensive service on the field in France. Returned to Australia on 24.1.1919 per "Delta" On Duty and was Discharged on 7.5.1919
