During the attack when the enemy were trying to break through a small gap between our right flank and the Division on our right, this soldier, moving forward alone and firing his Lewis Gun from the hip, succeeded in holding up the attacking troops until the remainder of his platoon came forward and filled the gap. Later on when the final objective had been reached, he and his section crawled forward and established a post some hundred yards in advance where he remained engaging two hostile Machine Guns. He succeeded in silencing the enemy guns, thus allowing his platoon to consolidate.
