Biography contributed by john Bernie

We are fairly well treated here in regard to food; that is one good thing about the life. We have plenty of bully beef, biscuits, onion, potatoes, jam, sugar, tea and bacon every day, fresh bread three or four times a week, fresh meat (Australian) once or twice a week, and tobacco and cigarettes weekly. These latter supplies are light, and rarely last the week out. Wo can buy a few things occasionally, but we have to pay dearly for them, For instance, condensed milk 2s to 3sb per tin, eggs 3s per dozen. We don't get much news about the war in | general here."
