Private John Joseph Langhorne Fleming (Service No:N289268) served in the ACMF (Part Time Duty) from 30 October 1941 to 17 September 1945 with 6 Battalion (NSW) VDC.
Joe was born in Aberdeen via Scone, New South Wales in 1915, fourth child of Thomas Hastie Fleming (b1870 in Ballarat, Victoria) and Naomi Marian Fulton Langhorne (b1886 in Collarenebri via Walgett, New South Wales). Thomas (a Grazier at Ullah Station via Walgett, and a Magistrate/Peace Commissioner) and Naomi married in 1906 in Sydney, and settled at Russley, Aberdeen via Scone, where they raised their family and Thomas was a Grazier and Dairy Farmer. Thomas also served on Pasture Protection Boards in the Hunter Region.
Joe was a Grazier at Mt Parry, Willow Tree via Quirindi, and in 1940 in Armidale married Nancy MacKay (b1916 in Kentucky via Uralla, New South Wales). Joe and Nancy settled at Leighton Park via Scone, where they raised their family and Joe was a Grazier and Dairy Farmer. In the late 1940s the couple moved to Russley, where Joe was Station Manager, and following his father's death in 1959, was in partnership (Yumoo Pastoral Coy Ltd) with his younger brother David, managing the property. Joe also served as Councillor on the Upper Hunter Shire Council. Joe died in 1972 and Nancy in 2007.
