Son of Frederick J. Upton and Annie G. Upton of Auburn, NSW.
Husband of Beatrice M. Upton nee Riely of Paul Street, Auburn, NSW. Claude and Beatrice married during 1911c in Tamworth, NSW.
19 May 1916 - enlisted at Sydney with the 1st Sectopm Railway Unit with the rank of Private.
16 Januqry 1917 - promoted to 2nd Corporal
10 June 1918 - transferred to the 6th Railway Company
Commenced return to Australia on 20 May 1919 aboard HT Nestor disembarking on 4 July 1919

22 February 1920 - discharged at the 2nd Military District
