John was the youngest of four children of George Deverell Robinson (b 1863 in Essenden, Victoria) and first wife Florence Geraldine Lefroy (b 1866 at Karri Hill, WA). George - a Surveyor - and Florence married in 1894 in Guildford WA. 

John was a Farmer at Boyup Brook WA when he enlisted in the ACMF in 1942. He served as a Private (Service No:W70797) with the 5th and 14th Battalions Volunteer Defence Corps and was Discharged on 16 October 1945.

In 1943 John married Gwenneth Hetty Bickford (b 1912 in Subiaco, Perth WA) - Gwenneth was a Typiste. The couple settled in Boyup Brook where John was a Farmer. He died in 1998 and Gwenneth in 1993.
