Private Norman Lawrence Spark (Service No:VX94288) initially served in the ACMF (Private; Service No:V515164) from 11 February 1943 before enlisting in the AIF on 8 February 1944. Private/Sapper Spark (graded Storeman) served in Morotai, Labuan and Japan (Kure, as part of the British Commonwealth Occupation Force BCOF) with 14th, 18th and 28th Field Coys RAE, and was attached to 14th Field Coy RAE at Discharge on 9 July 1947.
Norm was born in Ballarat, Victoria in 1925, second of four children of Lawrence Henry Spark (b1902 in Ballarat, Victoria) and Gladys May Jeffs (b1900 at Swan Hill, Victoria). Lawrence was a Bootmaker in Ballarat in 1923 when he and Gladys married. They settled in Ballarat where they raised their family and Lawrence was a Bootmaker. Following Gladys' death in 1928, Lawrence moved to Melbourne where he worked as a Bootmaker and Tram Conductor. Lawrence served in the Army WWII (Service No:VX73487).
Norm was a Fitter and Turner in Melbourne in 1943 when he enlisted in the Army. Following his Discharge, Norm was working as a Fitter in Melbourne in 1948 when he married Rita Joyce Partridge (b1928 in Melbourne, Victoria). Norm and Rita settled in Melbourne, where they raised their family and Norm worked as a Fitter and, from the early 1950s, as a Panel Beater. Rita died in 2013 and Norm in 2023.
