Edwin Howarth
Edwin John Howarth was a 21-year-old farmer on the family property Coocoo- boonah, near Gunnedah, when he signed enlistment papers in January 1917. His father Herbert was named as his next- of kin. With a strong rural background, he was placed in the 2nd Light Horse, which served in the desert campaign in Egypt. Palestine and the Sinai. He escaped harm in 15 months' service in the Light Horse as a driver but was ill on periodic occa- sions, mostly pleurisy. After hospitalisa- tion for pleurisy at the end of the war, he came home on the Euripedes in March 1919. = Edwin Howarth.
