Corporal Frank Albert Smith (Service No:TX15396) initially served in the Militia (Driver; Service No:T5143) with 17th Field Battery from 7 July 1936 to 16 November 1940. He then enlisted in the Australian Army on 16 July 1943. Corporal Smith was attached to 12 Field Coy when he was Discharged on 7 November 1945.

Born in 1918 at Evandale Tasmania, Francis (aka Frank) was the second of eleven children of Albert Montague Smith (b1894 at Oatlands, Tasmania) and Rose Ethel Cutler (b1893 at Evandale, Tasmania). Albert (a Labourer) and Rose married in 1915 in Launceston, Tasmania. Albert served in WWI (Private; Service No:1248). Albert and Rose settled in St Leonards where Albert worked as a Cleaner and Driver.

Frank was a Wood Worker and Butcher's Assistant, and in 1942 in Launceston married Hilda Annie Bender (b1915 at Eaglehawk Neck, Tasmania). Frank and Hilda settled at St Leonards where Frank was a Butcher. Hilda died in 2003 and Frank in 2003.
