"THE LATE PRIVATE J. F. MADDISON.
Mrs. A. Maddison, of James-street, Glanville, has been notified that her youngest son, Private Joseph F. (Toby) Maddison, was killed in action in France on August 22. He enlisted in September, 1915, and sailed for Egypt on February 7, 1916. His eldest brother, Private L. F. Maddison, was killed in action on August 6, and his only other brother, Private R. J. Maddison, has been wounded in France. The deceased soldier was well liked and respected by all who knew him. He spent his 31st birthday on his way from Egypt to France." - from the Adelaide Chronicle 21 Oct 1916 (nla.gov.au)
