Clive Wharton - Newspaper articles

(i) Word has been received that Gunner Clive Wharton of 'Benmore,' Gundy, has returned to Australia.
"Word has been received that Gunner Clive Wharton of 'Benmore,' Gundy, has returned to Australia after some considerable time spent with the A.I.F in Syria. Pte. Bill Stafford, only son of Mr. and Mrs Roy Stafford, formerly of Scone, has also returned."

(ii) Gunner Clive Wharton, youngest son of the late Mr and Mrs. W. Wharton, of Brushy Hill, returned to Scone on Wednesday night after an absence of just on two years in the Middle East and elsewhere. Keen to serve his country, Gunner Wharton 'dropped a stitch or two,' or rather, a few years, when he forced his wayup to the recruiting officer. However, he is now back, having done a young man's job in good style, and is looking particularly fit and well.

(iii) PERSONAL
There passed away on Friday last at Coolangatta, Mr. Clive Wharton, widely-connected and former well known resident of the Upper Hunter. Son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Wharton, of Brushy Hill, and in his mid fifties, deceased had been residing with his sister, Mrs. Roy Stafford, formerly of Scone. The late Mr. Wharton, who had been in indifferent health for a protracted period, saw service in the two world wars, his intense patriotism impelling him to take up arms in the second global conflagration, when he saw much service in the Middle East. A bachelor, he was most companionable and respected by a legion of friends, who learned of his demise with feelings of deep regret.
Surviving brothers and sisters of the deceased exserviceman are: William (Cornerville, Tomalla), Percy (Hunter's View, Gundy), Mrs. C. Butler (Sydney), and Mrs. R. Stafford (Coolangatta). Another brother was the late Edward T. ( Benmore, Gundy), a sister being the late Mrs. Ern. Doyle (Aberdeen). The remains were cremated in Brisbane.
