Great Sydney Central Station Honour Board

James Elsworth GILMORE,(Service Number 3522A) was born on 27 April 1889 at Toorawenah. He first worked for the NSW Railways from 26 August 1913 as a gatekeeper in the Newcastle District and then a porter and assistant guard, a shunter at Eskbank and an assistant guard in Sydney. He was granted leave from this position to join the Expeditionary Forces on 3 October 1915.

He was wounded in action on 19 July 1916 and transferred through the 8th Field Ambulance and the 1st Australian Casualty Clearing Station and the Ambulance Train to the 3rd Canadian General Hospital where he died on 24 July. He was buried in the Boulogne Eastern Cemetery

James Elsworth GILMOR, (Service Number 3522A) was born on 27th April 1889 at Toorawenah. He first worked for the NSW Railways from 26th August 1913 as a gatekeeper in the Newcastle District and then a porter and assistant guard, a shunter at Eskbank (Lithgow) and an assistant guard in Sydney. He was granted leave from this position to join the Expeditionary Forces on 3rd October 1915.

He enlisted at the RAS Showgrounds on 28th September, giving his father as next of kin. He left Australia from Sydney aboard HMAT ‘Aeneas’ on 20th December 1915. In Egypt he was allotted to the 53rd Australian Infantry Battalion and then embarked from Alexandria to France on 28th June  1916.

He was wounded in action on 19th July 1916 and transferred through the 8th Field Ambulance and the 1st Australian Casualty Clearing Station and the Ambulance Train to the 3rd Canadian General Hospital where he died on 24th July 1916. He was buried in the Boulogne Eastern Cemetery.
