Sergeant George Wray Hazeldine (Service No:VX113799) enlisted in the ACMF (Sapper; Service No:V160457) with 21 Field Coy RAE on 16 March 1942 and then enlisted in the Australian Army on 14 September 1942. Sergeant Hazeldine served with 21 Field Coy RAE in New Guinea (21 January 1943 to 8 August 1944). In June 1945 he was detached to Bribie Heavy Battery and was attached to 21 Field Coy RAE when he was Discharged on 11 November 1946.
The eldest of two children, George (aka Wray) was born in 1923 in Portland, Victoria to Frederick (Charlie) Charles Hazeldine (b1894 in Portland, Victoria) and Ethel Maud Paine (b1890 in Melbourne, Victoria). Charlie (a Labourer in Portland) and Ethel (a Milliner) married in Mt Gambier South Australia, and settled in Portland Victoria where they raised their family. Charlie - also known as Barney in the football world - played football with various district teams and worked as a Council Officer and Projectionist.
Wray worked a Assistant Cinematograph Operator/Motion Picture Engineer in Portland, Victoria where, in 1947 he married Dorothy Jean Cuneen (b1927 in Melbourne, Victoria). Wray and Dorothy settled in Portland where Wray worked as a Caretaker and Projectionist. Wray died in 1957 and Dorothy in 2010.
