Sapper William George Grant (Service No:VX122944) initially served with the ACMF as a Private (Service No:V7365) attached to 19 Infantry Training Battalion and 22nd Infantry Battalion from 15 August 1940 to 18 January 1943. Private Grant enlisted in the AIF on 19 January 1943 and was attached to 33 Employment Coy. Private Grant served in New Guinea (2 June 1943 - 9 Jully 1944) with 33 Employment Coy and in Hollandia and Japan (22 January 1945 - 14 February 1947) with 28 Field Coy. Sapper Grant was attached to 28 Field Coy at Discharge on 11 March 1947.

Born in 1916 in Melbourne Victoria, Bill was the fourth of seven children of George Alexander Grant (b1877 at Amherst in the Central Goldfields, Victoria) and Amelia Eleanor Ingram Thompson (b1880 in Ballarat, Victoria). George (a Labourer) and Amelia married in 1908 in Melbourne, Victoria where they settled and raised their family and George worked as a Labourer and Checker.

Bill worked in Melbourne as a Labourer and Checker (Factory) prior to his service in WWII and, following his Discharge in 1947, returned to Melbourne where he worked as a Boilermaker and Labourer. Bill died in 1985.
