John William Hogarth
John William Hogarth was my grandfather. I was just a child when I used to visit him at home in his later years. He was a gentle, kind man that loved his family and the Richmond Tigers. He in turn was adored by his wife, his children and grandchildren.
When he returned from the war and being a POW, his daughter (my mother) asked him to speak some Japanese. He couldn’t remember much, just a few words. Before his death, he had a flashback and was speaking fluent Japanese to the Japanese nurse in the hospital, it must have been in there somewhere.
He lived with his wife and daughter in Ringwood, Victoria until his death in 1987.
He is dearly missed. Lest we forget.
