Flemington-Kensington Church News, December 1917
2040 Pte W H Corrigan, C Coy, 57th Battalion, embarked 8th June 1916. On arrival in England, owing to the state of his health he was placed in the Military Post Office at Salisbury Plains. In January 1917 he rejoined his Battalion in France where he is still doing his bit with the boys. He was in good health and spirits when he last wrote and wishes to be remembered to all kind enquirers.

2040—Cpl. W. H. Corrigan, 57th Batt. was killed in action on 8th August last. To his parents, sisters and brother we offer our sincere and warm sympathy in their time of grief and sore trouble. May Christ in His mercy draw very near to them. Will was looking forward to a holiday in England. It is well the lads have a forward pleasant view in the midst of their arduous task. ln a late letter he says: - "God is guiding me through this war, and I have my life in his hands I know."

and you are called but to a higher duty.

He is buried at Warfuges in a registered British Cemetery where I have seen the grave, marked with a cross bearing name and Btn colours. I was just by him when he was killed by our own barrage - killed instantly and I saw him fall. He was in A Co. quite an athlete, came from Kensington, Victoria; an excellent fellow, good all round soldier, and liked by all

BOULOGNE 4.11.1918.
I knew casualty. He was a man about 5 ft 8 ins, well built, about 22 years of age, known as "Bill". Casualty was advancing at Harbonnieres. I was on his gun section. he got too far ahead and got into our own barrage and was killed by one of our own 60lb shells, instantly. I was 12 ft away at the time the shell exploded and I tried to do what I could for Casualty. He was taken back to Vaire Sur Corbie where I saw his cross under construction.
