The Minmi Roll of Honour has 79 names inscribed of those who returned home from The Great War.

The 6th name inscribed is Private Ralph Peel.

On the Sunday afternoon of the 24th March 1935, Private Ralph Peel, 2nd Battalion (Reg No-1614), miner (Brown's No. 2 Tunnel, Minmi, N.S.W.), from Back Creek, Minmi, New South Wales and Rawson Street, Kurri Kurri, N.S.W., was laid to rest at Kurri Kurri Cemetery, age 52.

Never married.

Born at Cambrois, Newcastle Upon Tyne, England possibly April 1883 to Ralph, died tragically 13.9.1902, Brown's No. 2 Tunnel, Minmi, N.S.W., age 58, buried at Minmi Cemetery, Left Hand Side, Section 07, Plot 016, from Back Creek, Minmi, N.S.W., and Margaret Peel nee Gray, died 9.12.1895, Minmi, N.S.W., age 45, mother of 9?, sleeping at Minmi Cemetery, Left Hand Side, Section 07, Plot 016, from Back Creek, Minmi, N.S.W.

Ralph enlisted on the 7th December 1914, age 31 years 7 months, at Liverpool, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A49 Seang Choon on 11th February 1915.

Wounded in action - 23.7.1916 (GSW left arm, mild, Battle of Pozieres), 23.8.1918 (GSW right hand).

Ralph arrived home on the 20th May 1919, being discharged on the 19th July 1919.

Received all 3 War Medals.

Name not inscribed on the Minmi St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church Roll of Honour.

I will place poppies and a 1914-1918 WAR label at Ralph’s gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country. 

Younger brother Edward Peel (referred to as Ned, born 5.3.1887, Minmi, New South Wales, married electrical fitter from 1st Avenue, Stanford Merthyr, New South Wales, enlisted 15.5.1916, Sydney, N.S.W., age 29 years 2 months, 1st Australian Pioneer Battalion, Reg No-2914, Private, unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A30 Borda on the 17th October 1916, disembarked Plymouth, England 9.1.1917, proceeded O/Seas to France from Folkestone, England 19.4.1917, wounded in action - 18.9.1917 (GSW right arm, slight), invalided to England 29.9.1918, admitted to hospital 30.9.1918 (accidental burns to hand), commenced return to Australia 24.3.1919, RTA invalided 10.5.1919, discharged 25.9.1919, died 23.6.1975, Kurri Kurri, N.S.W., age 88 years 3 months, laid to rest at Kurri Kurri General Cemetery, N.S.W., date unknown, not officially commemorated.
