Biography contributed by Faithe Jones

Military Medal

'During operations at MESSINES 7th to 12th June 1917, when the supply of ammunition was very low he searched for and kept up a supply, which he obtained from the dead, despite the fact that the enemy shell fire was extremely violent. During the whole of the operations he displayed great courage and devotion to duty, thus setting an excellent example to others.'

Bar to Military Medal

'In the operations against the HINDENBURG LINE Est of LE VERGUIER on 18th September 1918. In the advance towards the second objective this N.C.O.'s officer was wounded. he immediately took command of the section and showed great skill and leadership in the way he took his men over the open. By careful use of the ground he kept down casualties, and in the final objective so sited his guns, that they were used with good effect against the enemy. He set a splendid example to all.'
