Corporal Henry James Sheringham (Service No:67996) served with Senior Cadets and for four years in the Militia (25th Battalion) prior to enlisting in the AIF as a Private on 3 May 1918. Corporal Sheringham was attached to 27th Reinforcements on 2 November 1918 when he embarked with his Unit on board HMAT A7 Medic. On 12 December 1918 the Troopship was recalled, and Corporal Sheringham was Discharged on 26 December 1918.
Jim was born in Sydney, New South Wales in 1895, eighth of ten children of Henry James Sheringham Snr (b1847 at South Creek, Hawkesbury, New South Wales) and Rebecca Mary Jane Harrison (b1862 in Sydney, New South Wales). Henry and Rebecca married in 1883 in Sydney, where they raised their family and Henry was a Blacksmith.
Jim started work in Sydney as a Clerk (Accountant), and from 1913 to 1925 played Soccer for Sydney. In 1922 in Sydney he married Ruby Alice Dowling (b1894 in Copeland, New South Wales) - Ruby was working as a Clerk in Sydney. Jim and Ruby settled in Sydney (Sans Souci), where they raised their family and Jim worked as a Clerk until retirement. Jim died in 1982 and Ruby in 1989.
