Gunner John Alan Kelsall (Service No:VX27295) enlisted in the AIF on 26 June 1940, and served with 2/11 Field Regiment in the Middle East (10 November 1941 - 27 March 1942) and the Northern Territory (27 January 1943 - 9 November 1943). Gunner Kelsall was attached to 2/11 Field Regiment at Discharge on 30 November 1943 (employed in rural industry). 

John was born in Hamilton, Victoria in 1906, second of five children (and only surviving son) of Albert Christopher Kelsall (b1866 in Buninyong, Victoria) and Frances Maud Boyd (b1878 in Buninyong, Victoria). Albert (an Auctioneer) and Frances married in Elaine via Ballarat in 1902, and settled in Hamilton where they raised their family and Albert was an Auctioneer and Grazier. Albert was a Member of the Board of Directors of Young Bros Stock and Station Agency (later Denys, Lascelles Ltd), a Member of the Hamilton Pastoral and Agricultural Society and involved in local hunting, cricket and bowls clubs. Albert died in 1930.

John took over the family property on his father's death in 1930 and, in 1944 in Balmoral, married Elizabeth (Betty) Chalmers Horne (b1913 in Warrnambool, Victoria) - Betty was a Private (Service No:VF514148) in the AWAS. John and Betty settled at Cavendish via Hamilton, where they raised their family and John was a Grazier. John died in 1984 and Betty in 2005.
