20 Jun 1917: Honoured Military Medal, Citation: At St. Yves on the 4th June 1917, Sergeant Quayle was a member of a daylight raiding party, under Lieutenant Gaze, which met with great opposition by the enemy. By his brave and determined actions he encouraged his men who succeeded in killing and wounding a large number of the enemy. He returned with his party to our parapet, but when he found some of his party missing promptly returned to No Man's Land, and while searching for the missing men was himself wounded. Throughout the operation he displayed great bravery and set a splendid example to his men.
