Eldest of four brothers who served in WWII (Keith, Edwin, James and Bruce), Captain Keith Stewart Meredith OAM (Service Nos:T165/TX6408) initially served in the ACMF (22 September 1941 - 9 September 1942) as a Lieutenant with 17th Field Battery and 6th Australian Field Regiment. Lieutenant Meredith was 'in the field' on 10 Seeptember 1942 when he enlisted in the AIF, and was promoted to Captain on 6 January 1943. Captain Meredith served in New Guinea and Bougainville with 2nd Field Artillery Regiment (14 August 1944 - 6 August 1945), and was attached to 2 Field Regiment on Termination of Appointment on 10 October 1945.
Keith was born in Launceston, Tasmania in 1915, eldest of four children (sons) of George Stewart Meredith (b1883 in Wellington, New Zealand) and Ethel Nancy Roxburgh (b1888 in Bathurst, New South Wales). George arrived in Hobart in 1906 on board the SS Warrimoo, and worked for the Launceston Maritime Board before being appointed Secretary and Shipping Master to the Board in 1912, George and Ethel married in 1913 in Launceston, where they settled and raised their family and George was Secretary of the Launceston Maritime Board.
Keith started work in Launceston as a Shipping Clerk, and in 1940 in Launceston married Beth Constance Holswich (b1918 in Penrith, New South Wales). Keith and Beth settled in Launceston, where they raised their family. Following his Discharge from the Army, Keith was appointed Manager (Launceston) of Frank Hammond Pty Ltd, and in 1989 was awarded an OAM 'For Service to the Transport Industry, particularly in the fields of raods and shipping' (Trove; 1989). Beth died in 1995, and Keith died in 2016.
