Gunner Archie Leslie Allan (Service No:VX77240) initially served in the Militia (Trooper; Service No:47336) - enlisting on 26 July 1939 with 26th Machine Gun Regiment and transferring to 19th Machine Gun Regiment on 6 November 1940. Gunner Allan enlisted in the AIF on 9 March 1942 (Gunlayer) and transferred to 16 Australian Field Regiment RAA on 22 June 1944. Gunner Allan was attached to 16 Field Regiment at Discharge on 6 October 1945.
Archie was born in Horsham, Victoria in 1919, youngest of eight children of Albert Felix Allan (b1867 in Hamilton, Victoria) and Penual Grant Allan (b1876 in Pimpinio, Victoria). Albert (a Farmer) and Penual married in 1897 in Kenmare, Victoria where they settled and raised their family and Albert was a Farmer until his death in 1939.
Archie worked as a Farmer in Kenmare before he enlisted in the Army and in 1948 in Portland Victoria married Ila Muriel Dellar (b1916 in Rainbow, Victoria) - Ila had been working in Melbourne as a Clerk. Archie and Ila settled in Kenmare where they raised their family and Archie was a Farmer until his death in 1967. Ila died in 2000,
