Gunner Victor Michael Heffernan (Service No: WX2957) enlisted in the Australian Army in May 1940. He served in the Middle East (22 November 1940 - 9 February 1943) and SWPA (Morotia and Tarakan: 8 April 1945 - 4 September 1945). Gunner Heffernan was hospitalised on several occasions for Malaria, and for a broken ankle. He served with 2/7 Field Regiment (Jungle Division) and was attached to 2/4 Field Regiment when he was Discharged in October 1945. 

The eldest of six children, Victor was born in 1914 in Carnarvon, WA to Michael (Mick) Heffernan (b1888 in Perth, WA) and Eva Emily Bottle (nee Wells;b1886 in Guildford, WA). Mick (a Jockey) and Eva married in 1912 in Fremantle WA and in October 1915 Mick enlisted in the AIF (Private; Service No:4619). Mick and Eva lived in Carnarvon, Toodyay, Guildford and Perth where Mick worked as a Jockey, Farm Hand, Labourer and Stockhand. Following Eva's death in 1943, Mick remarried.

Victor worked as a Labourer and Miner in Guildford prior to his enlistment. In 1943 in Perth WA he married Jean Brindley (b1915 in Redcliffe, Swan, WA). Following his Discharge, Victor worked in Perth as a Labourer, and was in Narrogin, WA in 1949 when he and Jean divorced. Victor settled in Perth, WA and was working as a Labourer in 1960 when he married Dorothy Eden Batchelor (b 1927 in Perth, WA) - Dorothy was a Shop Assistant in North Perth. The couple settled in Perth, WA where Victor worked as a Craftsman. Victor died in 1983 and Dorothy in 1996.
