Private Charles Alexander Compston (Service No:W36639) served with the ACMF from 12 September 1941 to 6 November 1943. Classified Cook, Private Compston served with Cooking School and 3 Field Training Battery.
Alec was born in 1900 at Niagara in Western Australia, sixth of seven children of William Compston (b1861 in Coleraine, Victoria) and Ellen Susan Sutton (b1865 in Portland, Victoria). William (a Butcher) and Ellen married in Goroke, Victoria in 1884, and by 1896 had moved to the WA Goldfields. William worked as a Butcher and he and Ellen lived in Kalgoorlie, Coolgardie, Niagara and Geraldton before settling in Fremantle.
Alec worked as a Butcher in Fremantle where, in 1923 he married Henrietta (Hettie) Jessie Russ (b1902 in Fremantle, WA). Alec and Hettie settled in Fremantle where they raised their family and Alec worked as a Butcher. Alec died in 1970 and Hettie in 1974.
