Private Robert Hampton Green (Service No:WX9738) enlisted in the Australian Army on 6 December 1940 and was attached to 1 Training Battalion. On 4 June 1941 Private Green embarked from Sydney for Liverpool with 3 Forestry Coy on board HMT Themistocles. Private Green was Discharged on 12 February 1944. He was one of seven siblings who served in WWII.
Born in 1911 in Norseman WA, Robert Hampton Norseman Green was the eighth of twelve children of William Henry Green (b1878 at Halls Gap in the Northern Grampians, Victoria) and Clara Elizabeth Crudace (b1877 in Stawell, Victoria). William (a Miner) and Clara married in 1900 in Stawell, Victoria and by 1902 had moved to the Goldfields region of WA where William was a Miner - Kalgoorlie, Coolgardie, Bulong, Boorara, Kanowna, Norseman, Burbanks - before moving to Manjimup in the late 1920s where William was a Farmer.
Robert was a Forestry Worker in Kirrup nr Donnybrook and in 1934 married Eileen Mary Rogers (b1918 in Tumby Bay, South Australia) in Sussex, WA. Robert and Eileen settled in Perth where Robert was a Truck Driver when he enlisted in the AIF in 1940. Eileen died in 1942, and in 1945 Robert remarried to Thelma Coultas (b1913 in Perth, WA) - Thelma served in the RAAF (Aircraftwoman; Service No:103029). Robert and Thelma lived in Wattle Grove where Robert was a Factory Hand (1949), in Dean Mill where he was a Crane Driver (1954) and from the 1960s in Rivervale, Perth WA where Robert was a Supervisor. Robert died in 1986 - the year his biography - During the Passage of Time - was published, and Thelma died in 2004.
