I wish I knew him
James Mair Stephen was my grandfather, but I never knew him. He was born in 1878 in Yarraville Victoria to James Mair Stephen Snr and Sophia Tye Stephen.
James was married to Rachel Amy Stephen and together they gave birth to my father, Walter Robert Stephen.
Prior to enlisting in the army, James worked as a blacksmith. Apparently James was significantly injured during WW1 (facial injuries) and died in 1955 at 77 years.
He is buried with his wife in Melbourne General Cemetery.
