One of three brothers who served in WWII, Gunner Arnold Frederick Isaac (Service No:VX52919) enlisted in the AIF on 17 April 1941 as a Gunner/Private attached to 2/2 Field Regiment. Gunner Isaac served with 2/2 Field Regiment in the Middle East (28 June 1941 - 7 August 1942) and New Guinea (4 December 1944 - 3 September 1945), and was Discharged on 2 July 1946.
Arnold was born in Melbourne, Victoria in 1913, fourth of six children of Cyril Everett Isaac OBE (b1884 in Melbourne, Victoria) and Elizabeth Brown (b1885 in Jamieson, Victoria). Cyril (a Teacher) and Elizabeth married in 1907 in Kevington via Jamieson, and lived there and in Bendigo before moving to Melbourne, where Cyril enlisted in the AIF (Lieutenant; Service No:3399). Following his Discharge from the AIF, Cyril studied Horticulture in England before settling in Melbourne, where he and Elizabeth raised their family and Cyril established the family Nursery Business. Cyril was an Educator, Horticulturalist, Conservationist, Polictician and Shire Councillor, and in 1956 was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire.
Arnold worked in the family business in Melbourne as a Nurseryman on finishing school, and in Melbourne in 1941 married Betty Kathleen Rice (b1919 in Colac, Victoria) - Betty was a Textile Worker in Melbourne and in 1942 enlisted in the AWAS (Private; Service No:VF345297). Arnold and Betty settled in Melbourne, where they raised their family and Arnold was a Nurseryman until retirement. Arnold died in 1985 and Betty in 1997.
