20 Aug 1919: | Honoured Military Medal, ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. [He] has rendered excellent service, particularly on the morning of 2 September 1918 during the operations NE of PERONNE when the Battery was pushed forward in close support of the Infantry. Sergeant Herbert was placed in charge of four ammunition wagons to supply the guns with ammunitions from a forward dump. Throughout the day under heavy hostile fire including severe gas concentrations [he] supplied the guns with ammunitions.
