Archibald's parents were William McNeill and Margaret Fulton. His occupation is listed as a farmer when he enlisted on 19 August 1916 at Brisbane. His unit embarked from Brisbane, Queensland, on board HMAT A75 Marathon on 27 October 1916. Archibald was working as a dairyman at Dayboro on the 1919 Electoral Roll. He married Elizabeth Julia Dank in 1936 at Brisbane, they were living at Paddington and his occupation was a linesman.
