Emerson was the eldest of three children of John Emerson Peart (born 1866 at Coomoora, Victoria) - a Farmer - and Ellen (Nellie) Elizabeth Fletcher (born 1867 at Blue Mount, Victoria).
Emerson was a Farmer at Barry's Reef in Bourke, Victoria in 1916 when he enlisted in the AIF at Mirboo North. He served as a Driver and Lance Corporal (Service No:10324) with 10th Field Coy Engineers and was Discharged in May 1919. Emerson served with the ACMF (Private, Service No:V92107) in WWII. Brother Charles Albert also served with the ACMF (Service No:V16231) and son Ronald Gregory (RAAF, Service No:450144) also served in WWII.
In 1919 Emerson was a Manager in Ballarat, Victoria when he married Ruby Evelyn Crole (born 1894 at Leongatha, Victoria) at Mirboo. Emerson and Ruby lived in Ballarat before moving to Northcote in Melbourne in the late 1920s where Emerson worked as a Carrier. By the early 1930s the family had moved to Mirboo in Gippsland, Victoria where Emerson was a Farmer. Emerson died in 1975 and Ruby died in 1976.
