Corporal William John Glew (Service Nos:WX37720/W26804) initially enlisted as a Private in the ACMF and served with 5 Garrison Battalion WA. In February 1943 he transferred to the AIF where he served with 19 and 8 Garrison Battalions and was Discharged on 5 October 1944.
Born in 1905 in Leederville, Perth WA, william (aka John) was the youngest of seven children of Samuel Glew (b1861 in Melbourne, Victoria) and Margaret Crooks (b1864 in Melbourne, Victoria). Samuel (a Brickmaker) and Margaret married in 1884 in Melbourne and had moved to Perth WA by the late 1890s. Samuel and Margaret lived in New Norcia and Perth where Samuel worked as a Brickmaker.
In 1934 John was working as a Commercial Traveller in Perth WA when he married Dorothy Vida Courbary (b1910 in Perth, WA) - Dorothy was a Dental Nurse. They separated in 1939 and Divorced in 1943, and in 1944 John remarried Sheila May O'Halloran (b1910 in Katanning, WA) - Sheila was living in Guildford WA. John and Sheila settled in Perth where John worked as a Commercial Traveller. Sheila died in 1987 and John in 1996.
