Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Private William Lowrey (Service No:N75139) served with the ACMF from 14 June 1940 to 14 October 1943. Initially attached to Canteen Services AASC, Private Lowrey transferred to 11 Garrison Battalion on 26 April 1942 and was Discharged (medical - Bells Palsy) on 14 October 1943.

Born in 1890 in Inverell NSW, William was the second of four children of Michael Lowrey (b1857 at MacDonald River, NSW) and Anna Quinn (nee Shaughnessy (b1851 at Bundarra, NSW). Michael (a Labourer) and Anna married in 1888 in Inverell, NSW where they settled and raised their family and Michael was a Labourer.

William worked as a Draper and enlisted in the AIF on July 1915 - he was Discharged as medically unfit in September. In 1928 William was a Draper in Inverell when he married Mary Kathleen Hanrahan (b1903 in Inverell, NSW). The couple moved to Bingarra in 1930, where William was a Draper and then to Glen Innes where he was a Traveller. William and Mary were living in Sydney in 1940 when William enlisted in the ACMF, and in the 1949 Electoral Roll, William stated he was a Soldier. William died in 1952 and Mary in 1981.
