Son Stephen William Veness and Adelaide Emily Elizabeth Veness of Namoi Street, Manilla, NSW.
Brother of Archie William Veness who returned to Australia on 3 August 1919 having served with the 6th Light Horse Regiment; brother of Henry Clarence Veness who died of wounds on 2 August 1918 while serving with the 1st Divisional Signal Company. Henry is buried in the Villers-Bretonneux Military Cemetery , Plot X11, Row C, Grave 6
Returned to Australia on 21 March 1915 aboard HT Ulysses disembarking on 14 April 1915 at Melbourne for onward travel to Sydney
