Lance Corporal Arthur Kingston James (Service No:VX66631) enlisted in the Australian Army on 28 November 1941 and was attached to 108 General Transport Coy when he Discharged on 17 February 1944.

Born in 1907 in Merino Victoria, Arthur was the eldest of two children of Melville Charles James (b1877 in Launceston, Tasmania) and Cecile Edith Kingston Vickery (b1876 in Benalla, Victoria). Melville (a Clergyman) and Cecile married in 1905 in Ararat, Victoria. Melville and Cecile lived in Merino, Maryborough, Ballarat and Melbourne where Melville progressed from Clergyman to Archdeacon and Canon, and was Bishop of St Arnaud when he died in Melbourne, Victoria.

Arthur started work as a Jackeroo at Blythvale Station in the Corngamite in Victoria. In 1934 he was a Jackeroo at Narrabri in Gwydr NSW and by 1936 he was an Agent at Tocumal NSW, where he met Rubina Isabel Strang (b1914 in Numurkah, Victoria). Arthur and Rubina married in 1938 in Melbourne, Victoria where they settled and Arthur worked as a Travelling Salesman and Council Inspector. Rubina died in 1958 and Arthur in 1959.
