Private Glen Issac Olcorn (Service Nos:V45563/VX52943) initially enlisted in the ACMF on 7 April 1941 and was attached to 59th Infantry Battalion when he transferred to the AIF on 17 April 1941. Private Olcorn served with 4th Infantry Training Battalion, 21st Infantry Battalion and 2/7 Australian Div Postal Unit.He served in the Middle East (28 June 1941 - 27 March 1942), New Guinea (8 August 1942 - 2 March 1943), and Borneo (Morotai and Balikapan; 2 June 1945 - 15 October 1945), and was attached to 21 Infantry Brigade at Discharge on 16 October 1945. Brother Ron also served in WWII.
Glen was born in Rutherglen, Victoria in 1918, second of five children of Joseph Stewart Olcorn (b1886 in Rutherglen, Victoria) and his first wife Margaret Isabel McAliece (b1896 in Rutherglen, Victoria). Joseph was an Apprentice Blacksmith and Farm Labourer in Ruthergglen, where he and Margarte married in 1913. Joseph enlisted in the AIF on two occasions - at Wagga Wagga NSW in 1917, where he served for two months with the Camel Corps (Trooper; Service No:2956) and in 1918 at Tomerong, Vic - on both occasions he was Discharged as Medically Unfit (Trachoma). Joseph and Margaret settled in Rutherglen, where they raised their family and Joseph worked as a Labourer. Following their divorce, Margaret moved to Melbourne and Joseph to Ballarat.
Glen worked as a Labourer and was a Cyanide Mill Operator in Melbourne in 1941 when he enlisted in the Army. Following his Discharge, Glen worked as an Upholsterer in Melbourne, where in 1947, he married Lillian Agnes McColl (nee Carlton; b1913 in Melbourne, Victoria) - Lillian was working in Melbourne as a Storewoman. Glen and Lillian settled in Melbourne, where they raised their family and Glen worked as an Upholsterer and Labourer. Following Lillian's death in 1969, Glen remarried in the mid 1970s to Eileen (Billy) Marie McCracken (nee Drane; b1915 in Maidstone, Victoria). In 1980 Glen and Billy retired to Rutherglen. Glen died in 2003 and Billy in 2005.
