Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Eldest of the three brothers who served in WWII (Allan, William and Ronald), Private Allan Kilpatrick (Service No:VX76163) enlisted in the AIF on 20 February 1942 and was attached to General Details Depot and 33 Infantry Battalion. Private Kilpatrick was attached to 2/7 Independent Coy on 14 October 1942 when he embarked with his Unit from Townsville for Port Moresby on board SS Annhui. On 18 January 1943 Private Kilpatrick embarked from Port Moresby for Brisbane on board HS Wanganella, and was attached to 7 Independent Coy at Discharge on 13 March 1943.

Allan was born in Kerang, Victoria in 1911, second of five children of Stanley John Brockman Kilpatrick (b1883 in Melbourne, Victoria) and Ethel May Kelso (b1891 in Kerang, Victoria). Stanley was a Carter in 1910 when he and Ethel married in Kerang, where they settled and raised their family and Stanley worked as a Driver and Buttermaker. Stanley and his eldest son Francis were killed in a car accident in 1950 when returning to Benalla from a visit to Albury - both wives were badly injured.

Allan started work as a Hairdresser, and in 1936 in Albury, New South Wales married Edna Jane Bulmer (b1915 in Culcairn, New South Wales). In 1942 Allan and Edna were living in Melbourne, where Allan was a Rubber Worker when allan enlisted in the AIF. Following his Discharge in 1943, Allan and Edna settled in Albury where they raised their family and Allan was a Hairdresser. In the early 1960s, Allan and Edna moved to Melbourne, where Allan worked as a Clerk until his death in 1979. Edna died in 1991.
